SHORT WALKING TRAILS IN LEE’S SUMMIT

You don’t want to conquer a mountain. You just want to take a walk in the park. Maybe you’re pushing a stroller, too. Well, this is the page for you. It’s the best of short walking trails in the Lee’s Summit area (in our humble opinion). If you’re looking for longer trails, we’ve got you covered as well:

Arbor Walk Park Trail
Walk a boardwalk and circle a lake and marsh habitat.

Charles David Hartman Memorial Park Trail and Winterset Nature Area Trail
This is a multi-purpose park that includes baseball fields bordering Cedar Creek. A trail follows the creek into Winterset Nature Area and returns via a loop. There are several access points to Cedar Creek, which features limestone outcroppings, boulders and waterfalls. Trail extensions lead to an adjacent neighborhood a bluff overlooking the park. In addition, the Rock Island Rail Corridor Trail cuts through the park as part of its 17.7-mile north-south route.

  • Length 0.6 mile loop + extensions

  • Conditions The portion of the trail bordering the baseball fields is paved. The Winterset Nature Area trail and the trail extensions are comprised of wood chips.

  • Kid and stroller friendly? The paved trail is flat and easy. The rest of the trails are not accommodating to strollers. While children may enjoy playing in the stream, don’t leave them unsupervised.

  • Address 700 S.W. Pryor Road, Lee’s Summit MO 64081

Deer Valley Park Trail
A loop follows a wooded stream and open areas with multiple species of trees. Trail extensions lead to neighborhoods and a stream and glade. Check directions before you go because finding the parking lot can be a little confusing.

Legacy Park Trail
Legacy Park is known for numerous sports fields, an amphitheater and community center. But it also features a paved, 5-mile loop that encircles Legacy Park Lake and follows the border of the entire 700-acre park. Don’t worry: You don’t have to walk all 5 miles. There are plenty of exit ramps or you can certainly turn back when you’re ready.

Not to be confused with the much longer Little Blue Trace, Little Blue Valley Park is just east of the city limits of Lee's Summit in Kansas City, Mo., on 50 Highway (near Knobtown). It follows the Little Blue River and traces the contours of a softball park at the same time. You can enter the trail at several access points. It's great for pushing strollers and power walking.
